RFV sense:

(transitive) To give an award.

Labelled "transitive" but the definition is intransitive. Possibly the definition was supposed to read "To give (an award)", and possibly it is a mix-up with a sense such as in "His fine performance was recognised with an Oscar", and the verb object has been misunderstood, but let me list it here in case anyone recognises anything else in it. If he, or his performance, was recognised, that that is indeed transitive. We could clarify by saying "give an award to" (person) or "give an award for" (performance). Equinox ◑ 20:06, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, thanks, you're right about the transitivity. It must mean "Give (someone) an award". However, this is a special case of another sense that already exists separately: sense 6, "To show formal appreciation of". I mean, I suppose "give (someone) an award" could be mentioned separately, but I wonder whether it could be over-specific. This kind of "recognition" can be made in numerous ways, of which an "award" is just one. Mihia (talk)
