Historical senses?

@Stríðsdrengur, I'm curious if you know about the historical sense development of this word? I ask, as this term was borrowed into Japanese in the late 1500s with a sense more like "woolen felt". ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 06:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Well, it's a slightly complicated word since we don't even know its etymology, but as far as I could find it in books or any other type of documentation (it was only used until a few years after 1900, soon after that period it became obsolete or archaic), when textile production began to grow in Brazil, especially in the northeast, I can only find this word in this context, but it may have appeared in the imperial period, as you said, a descendant in Japanese is attested in 1500.
