Rfv-sense: Currently:

# {{lb|en|euphemism}} A person who believes that Europeans are superior to other races.

Formerly:

# {{lb|en|euphemism}} {{synonym of|racist|lang=en}}

Is this overly specific? Probably can be cited if non-specific, but I did not see it in my brief GS. - Amgine/ t·e 03:31, 26 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I recently reverted an attempt to give the definition a positive POV, but the current wording isn't much better. The problem is that everything hinges on using the concept of reality to characterize one POV on a highly polarized subject. There should be some way to make clear that it refers to the race realist's perception of reality regarding race without pronouncing judgment on whether that perception is correct or not. There's a difference between saying that people who call themselves race realists are racists and saying that "race realist" means "racist". As a dictionary, we can only address the second of the two. Chuck Entz (talk) 04:24, 26 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

griping

[edit]

What a biased "euphemistic" definition!

As someone trained in philosophy I can report realism is debatable in any domain of inquiry. There are realists and anti-realists about electrons. That doesn't mean realists about electrons hate physics. Gender realism pervades science, no matter what some gender critical philosophers might want to say. Does that mean gender realists are misogynistic? I think not. Race realism means only this: the belief that races are in some sense real, have an objective reality. Should we declare "gay" to mean "AIDS infested cock suckers" because some people euphemistically intend that? How about "Feminist" euphemistically known to be "blue haired women who hate men"? When you stray from lexography to do politics, you don't solve the problem. You help make the problem by distorting reality. 2A03:E600:100:0:0:0:0:13

Wrong definition

[edit]

Race realism does not equate racism. Race realism could be descrobed as a scientific, social and philosophical stance in which one acknowledges certain scientific evidence that supports the notion of differences between ethnicities that are inherent to their genes.

A racial realist may believe, for example, that Asians are on average smarter than Whites. This does not mean they will discriminate against whites; it's merely recognizing a statistic which has notable scientfic support.

Of course, sometimes race realism can be used to legitimize certain forms of discrimination, and can incur in reductionism by attributing a certain group's behavior to genes alone, neglecting upbringing, culture, environment, social and political circumstances, among many other variables.
