Can someone explain the difference between quantitation and quantification? Calimo 10:10, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hm, I reckon the first is the actual process to quantitate, while the latter is that to quantify. To be more exact, quantitation is the result of measuring the quantity of something, while quantification is the result of assigning a quantity to something. --Eivind (t) 10:14, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your answer. So basically most of the time you would first quantitate (measure) then quantify (assign). It there a word that would encompass both operations? Thanks again, Calimo 11:53, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I do not have English as my mother tongue, so I do not know of any word which covers them both nicely. For all I know, "quantify" might cover both actions. --Eivind (t) 12:49, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
