- (In the modern United States) May support the Democratic or Republican Party (purple states, states that vote for Democratic or Republican Party in general, being red states in some given elections and blue states in other given elections).
- I have moved this def to purple state which already has a definition. Andrew massyn 09:23, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
purple
[edit]Some people I know use "purple" to refer somewhat euphemistically to public displays of affection/ boy-girl relationships: boys are blue, girls are red, don't make purple. is this used elsewhere or worthy of mention here? 24.56.166.100
- Depends. Is it just some people you know, or has it been used more widely in published sources that would meet WT:CFI? Equinox ◑ 21:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know. I haven't seen it anywhere except in this circle of friends, but it didn't sound quite like something they invented. 24.56.166.100
- Ask them where they got it from :) Equinox ◑ 22:13, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hehe. Well, here's a site (unrelated to us) explaining it http://stuffchristianslike.net/2009/08/making-purple-11-ways-to-stop-camp-kissing-2/ . I don't know if it's wide spread enough to add here, but it is usually used as "make purple". 24.56.166.100
- Hm. I searched for a few forms and nothing pops up from Google Books. I found one mention of the whole phrase on Google Groups, on alt.newlywed in a thread called A thought about honesty...: "Boys are blue, and girls are red, so don't make purple!" The writer was describing how the phrase might be used. Equinox ◑ 22:27, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- so it wouldn't be qualified to add here, then? :/ 24.56.166.100
