[edit]@Metaknowledge, Wikitiki89, this is a Ladino word that means ‘body.’ The noun kuerpo is also used. The question is, how did we come from Old Spanish cuerpo to puerpo? Are they even related? --Romanophile ♞ (contributions) 05:31, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- My sources list it as a dialectal variant of kuerpo. I have no clue how that /k/ > /p/ could have happened. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:19, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Apparently this is rare, but not unheard of. See w:Assimilation (phonology)#Anticipatory assimilation at a distance. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:26, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Or it could be assimilating to the following /w/, which seems much more likely to me. --WikiTiki89 17:10, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Then why are kualo, kuando, etc all unaffected? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 17:14, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
