Czech and Slovak noun pud

[edit]

Czech noun "pud" could easily be translated to German as "Trieb", which is why it can be translated to English as both "instinct" and "drive". There appears to be a disagreement which of the two English expressions is more correct[1]. --Daniel Polansky 16:11, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, instinct and drive can be synonyms in some cases, regardless of German words.  As with all translations, what is "correct" depends a lot on context and it sometimes happens that different translators can come up with different translations, both of which are perfectly valid.  Your Czech entry for pud looks good. — V-ball 18:13, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, but what is the origin of the word? Does it descend from pudiť (to chase away), cf. Serbo-Ctoatian пудити, same meaning? The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 10:26, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
