Most definitions state that "ptooey" is onamanapoetic; that is, it is spelled according to its sound. I submit for debate that the word was brought into English from the Yiddish use of פִּתּוּי which means "temptation." Given it's relexive relation to spitting and the strong correlation between spitting and expressing disgust and the need to express disgust at temptation, seems logical to me. Anyone have evidence of it's use in Yiddish?

Sounds very convoluted. Disgust can be expressed at many things, not merely temptation. Why would this have to reach English from Yiddish? Equinox ◑ 17:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
