[edit]Are we sure about the suggested etymology? "Blend of portable + filter"
- I don't see any sources supporting this.
- "Portable" doesn't make a lot of sense here.
- I strongly believe that it comes from the Italian word, portafiltro, which simply means filter carrier. In Italian portare = to carry. Some examples: portapenne, portaombrelli, portabevande, portamonete.

- Yes - many Italian nouns starting with porta- mean a carrier or holder of the second part of the word. SemperBlotto (talk) 20:03, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
