Wyang, might you (or anyone else) help with the etymology on this one? The second syllable seems to be from 機 / 机 (jī, “loom”), but as for the first, the OED indicates that it's běn in pīnyīn and means "own", which is entirely unhelpful to me. It could be from:

本機／本机  ―  běn jī  ―  own loom

or

本織／本织  ―  běn zhī  ―  home-woven
