Belated reply to @J3133 re [1]: that doesn't surprise me; it seems nonstandard to use this originally-plural word as a singular with its own plural. I wonder if it should be marked as nonstandard, but it dates to an era when "standard" was more nebulous. - -sche (discuss) 22:35, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
