Talk:podium

Whereas it is true that some people incorrectly use the word "podium" to describe a lectern or a stand used for holding a lecturers notes or a book, this incorrect usage of the word does not constitute a new meaning or definition of the word. Rather, it remains simply an incorrect usage of the word. This misuse of the word stems from the fact that very often a lectern is mounted on top of a podium, and someone will request a member of the audience to "come up to the podium." We're building a dictionary here, not a Book of Right and Wrong. If a word is commonly used a certain way, it's not our place to exclude it simply because some people consider it incorrect. —Ruakh_TALK 19:33, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
