Well, a dated form in Romanian according to DEX is pleagă which suggests that it is in fact inherited. Nonetheless, it never achieved popular usage according to some scholars. It's definitely borrowed. I cannot find any evidence of being in use before 1850. DEX also says Din lat. plaga., which is the way it marks borrowings, while MDA says it's borrowed from "lat plaga, ger Plage", rather than saying it's inherited from Latin. Bogdan (talk) 12:25, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

Well it mentions that the popular or inherited character of the word is somewhat questionable, but doesn't go as far as saying it is outright certainly borrowed. Maybe a 'derived' is better in this case? Word dewd544 (talk) 01:58, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

I think the Ciorănescu means by "questionable character" that "there's absolutely no evidence the word was in use before mid-19th century". Bogdan (talk) 13:53, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
