is this really derogatory?

[edit]

someone said a while back that a term can only be slang if it has a formal-language equivalent. i wonder if the same could be said for supposedly derogatory terms. if these 4 definitions are all derogatory, what would a polite person say?

the term perseveration is in common use in the field of autism and i have never thought of it as being insulting or belittling, nor would i know what to replace it with. Thoughts? Soap 17:26, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

another user has reverted it now. if we restore, i would say that it should be taken sense by sense, because perseverance is not used in psychology with this meaning so far as i know, therefore perseveration cannot be a derogatory synonym of it. Soap 05:50, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
