Contradictions
[edit]Definitions 1 & 2 appear to contradict one another. A Ford Expedition is peculiar in Japan, though that very SUV model is peculiar to the United States. Peculiar describes something common in one place, and uncommon in another. This makes the second definition feel rather awkward (at least, I would feel awkward if I used it that way.) What can I do about this? Instead of "peculiar to the United States", what other word would I use to describe a Ford Expedition in this way? Thank you for your guidance. --24.255.155.100 03:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- You'll notice that the quotations for the second definition are over a century old. This usage can be considered archaic by common sense, though Wiktionary likely has different standards. 202.89.188.28 15:23, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
