Bit racist

[edit]

Meaning a bit racist. Slang for Hindus and Punjabis 2409:4064:8:5C58:E408:F7AC:F6DC:6512 13:57, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Pajeet (Poojeet) is used to describe Indians and, by default, Hindus as street shitters, scammers, and unintelligent

[edit]

"The term "pajeet" is an ethnic slur, coined as a derisive imitation of Indian names. Typically, pajeet is used to describe Indians on the Internet - and, by default - Hindus"

  • In particular observe [this quote] from Sudhakar at al. (2022), p.9: "the idea that pajeets (Hindus) are dirty (streetshitter, poojeet), dishonest (scamming), and unintelligent (mong-a slang term on 4Chan for individuals who do idiotic or stupid actions without realization^27) We see an entire cluster in blue, dedicated to dehumanizing depictions such as "shitskinned," "subhuman," and "poon***r."

The source of the word Pajeet is Ajit Pai

[edit]

Original Pajeet meme originated on 4Chan and was named after Ajit Pai the FCC chairman from trump era who tried to ban net neutrality here is an archived post from 4 chan that goes into detail https://4archive.org/board/g/thread/58582467/trump-is-l-i-t-e-r-a-l-l-y-letting-pajeet-lead-the-fcc Amansx69 (talk) 02:06, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Amansx69 I don't buy it. Was Ajit Pai even well-known in 2015? Ioaxxere (talk) 02:27, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Here’s a thread from 4Lebs Ajit Pai reference https://archive.4plebs.org/pol/thread/153378330/ Amansx69 (talk) 08:28, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes he was. The term first started in reference to him (Ajit Pai) and he was mocked on reddit for over reaching FCC regulation on the internet. Pajeet is not based off of the Punjabi Language. Mark Stevens WikiEdit (talk) 22:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
There seems to be consensus to remove the Punjabi aspect to this word, which I suspect were added for political reasons.
I am of the firm belief that to fight prejudice, we need to address the problem directly, not deflect it onto separatists.

Correct, a single group is being targeted with no evidence to support the claims. “Jeet” suffix names are by no means limited to Punjab. They are found all the way from Kashmir to Maharasthra and Sindh to Manipur. And it is a slur mostly aimed at Hindus, who are only a minority in Punjab. Rates of open defecation are also among the lowest in Punjab so it wouldn’t even make any sense. Anti Lie Squad (talk) 17:48, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

There is a significant aspect to this article that isn't addressing the mass anti-Hindu connotations the word "Pajeet" has. The term is also often associated with 'cow worshipping' and is associated with attached imagery of an Indian drinking cow urine or bathing in cow excrement. — This unsigned comment was added by Mark Stevens WikiEdit (talkcontribs) at 22:24, 21 May 2024 (UTC).Reply

This guy is right. Per my my revision there was an additional part of the definition. Immediately two weeks after the removal someone complains. Though I repeatedly pointed such a thing out, that it is not just synonymous to “Indian” or “South Asian” but refers to certain living conditions or practices, people who randomly and remotely found this word continue to beleaguer the article pseudologically with “cited” senses. I don’t know about the very origin, but in general there is no reason in assuming people on the internet invented or used such a word for years if it did not have a particular cultural twang. If some journo writes “a racist term for Indians” it does not mean it is everything known about it. As a lexicographer I often ballpark definitions of terms for concepts I do not know in every detail. Fay Freak (talk) 19:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
