There should be a difference between an optode and an optrode. From what I've seen in the literature, an optode is usually a sensor molecule, complex, or biosensor that produces an optical response to chemical and/or physical stimuli (eg a fluorescent or absorbing dye). However, an optrode is a device that resembles an electrode but utilizes an optical measurement technique. An example of an optrode would include an optical fiber with a fluorescent dye (which is an optode) placed at the distal end of the fiber.
