Parsing, inflection

[edit]

@Mnemosientje, Lingo Bingo Dingo: Should this expression be parsed as [op sterven na] [dood]? If yes, is this op … na circumfix used elsewhere, and is op sterven na dode attested? PUC12:02, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@PUC: It doesn't seem like an actual circumfix, I think it's just this phrase. I can't think of any similar phrases. The inflected form is attested, yes. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 13:14, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@PUC: Although -- come to think of it, you can have sentences like op de saus na is de pasta klaar, op mijn moeder na was de hele familie aanwezig, op de wc na is het huis schoon and so forth. So maybe it should be considered a circumfix after all? — Mnemosientje (t · c) 16:54, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is not a circumfix by virtue of not being an affix. It is a phrase consisting of a preposition and an appended adverb. It is not too different from op een na, op twee na, etc. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 22:20, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
