About the usage note

[edit]

This doesn't seem to be quite correct... Octopus is Latin, from the ancient Greek, oktopous. Apparently it is treated as a third declension Latin noun. Some dictionaries only allow "octopuses", while others accept octopuses, octopi and octopodes - in decreasing frequency of usage, octopodes being the rarest. The above note is correct in stating that "octopii" is not generally accepted. — This unsigned comment was added by 2a02:c7f:3624:c100:2886:1e32:b6e2:2077 (talk).
