Adaptations

For (hopfully usueful!) information - in the etymology section in GPC, ‘cfdds.’ means ‘cyfaddasiad’, i.e. ‘an adaptation of’. It is different to a borrowing, which in GPC would be marked as such (‘benthyciad’). A ‘cyfaddasiad’ then is essentially a Welsh word created by using another word as a template, amlost, but adapted to Welsh conventions in a way that borrowing tend not to be (morphologically and phonetically). 2A00:23C7:7C81:9001:409:5D8E:8970:DA89 09:12, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

That's still borrowing. There are a number of types of borrowing, from unadapted borrowing, where absolutely nothing is changed, to things like calques, where the parts are translated separately, and phonosemantic matching, where a native term is substituted which is the closest sounding term that's also loosely similar in meaning.
