Heraldry sense

[edit]

I think the "wavy or curvy line" sense is an alternative form of nebuly/nébulé/nebulé, so it has a different etymology, pronunciation and POS from what is currently indicated. At the same time, OED notes an adjective and noun architecture sense of nebule (related to our second sense?) with a similar etymology to the heraldic sense. @-sche maybe you are interested in expanding/cleaning up these senses? Good catch; I agree with you that in the "nebule of" and a "cross nebule" cites, it's surely an alternative spelling/form of nebulé, nebuly (I've added cites of the same form there). I will try to look into the other sense(s) later. - -sche (discuss) 16:35, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
