not a probability distribution
[edit]For a real- or complex-valued probability distribution, the moment-generating function—if it exists—is a real or complex function, not itself a probability distribution. The same is true of the characteristic function (in the probability theory definition of the term, which is different from the definition we currently list for the term)

- OK, this is a wiki - correct anything that you know to be wrong. SemperBlotto (talk) 16:06, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- By the way, if you have a good knowledge of maths, and know how to define maths terms using the English language (rather than using symbols), please look at Category:Citations of undefined terms - there are quite a few maths terms there that need definitions.
