Since my original remark on defining this word was removed by a subsequent edit, I shall reinsert it here, where it perhaps better belongs. Discussion is invited.

Note: The existence of this word is regrettable (and probably not yet accepted by any authoritative source), although there exists a vast body of usage, particularly in the scientific literature, and even more particularly in funding proposals. The deficiencies of the word are easily established by examining the definitions of the terms "microscopic" and "macroscopic" used to define it, whereupon it is quite evident that no space exists between those two scales.
