The definition based on parallelism was proposed in a 2008 article by Ehab Abouheif. I would argue against enshrining his proposed definition in Wiktionary, as follows. First, he offers it just as a proposal, and I don't see that meaning reflected in more recent uses of the term. Second, he acknowledges its prior use to mean an intermediate time-scale of evolutionary change, and more recent usages reflect that meaning. Third, the term's etymology is all about the intermediary-time-scale meaning, and doesn't imply his proposed meaning. Fourth, the article in which he proposed that meaning has only been cited 42 times, in contrast to several of his other articles that have been cited hundreds of times, so it doesn't appear his proposal has taken off. I've added the more mainstream definition, and, if nobody objects, I'll soon remove the meaning based on parallelism. Jbening (talk) 22:42, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
