Measureand

[edit]

College Metrology studies: for the various tool and gage applications, discussion about "Measureand" and "Measureands" has provided how to answer the inquiry, such as on the job. An example, if a Design Engineer or Engineering Technician should request the Measurement of a Sphere, on a Tactile CMM. This is most commonly used for defining what I am looking for when requesting a calibration.

An example would be if a person wanted a sphere calibrated, one would need to specify exactly what one should need to be measured:

1) sphericity within .000010 or less, depending on gauge, specific alloy, or materials.

2) measured at the equator two times spaced 90° minimal.

3) any other requirement desired or specified with supporting approved documentation.
