I believe Manifest Destiny (the proper noun) is the expansion across the west of North America.

The common noun manifest destiny is the reapplication of the term for other uses, like landing on the moon was inevitable. Merriam Webster has the common noun meaning.

Someone asked me how I have a certain type of client and I said it was manifest destiny (the common noun). I happened to focus on my desired client time and build my resources to serve them.
