Mostly Obsolete? This is incorrect, Ma'am is in constant use in at least one UK TV police show which I know of — This comment was unsigned.
- In language, obsolete means that most people wouldn't understand it, clearly false for this word. It might be a bit dated. It might be that. I haven't seen anything to support it being more dated in the UK than in the US. DCDuring TALK 21:14, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Military
[edit]Some mention of the use of the term in military settings would be appropriate. Ma'am is the equivalent of Sir. It is is used whenever addressing a superior officer of female gender.
Prostitution

- You don't address those women as "ma'am" or "madam". They are just called "madams" as a noun. "Ma'am" is only a term of address; you can't say that somebody is "a ma'am". Equinox ◑ 03:35, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
