Add topicI was recently reading Laura Ingalls WIlders Little Town on the Prairie. In it, Laura's mother is cutting Laura's hair in bangs, and refers to the stray ends of the bangs as the 'lunatic Fringe". This certainly predates T Roosevelt's use of the term
