Contrary to popular belief, livid does not mean red in the face, or having a dark colouration - it stems from the latin word meaning blue in colour but refers to someone being pale blue in the face, not dark, purplish blue. Hence being synonymous with pallid. — This comment was unsigned.
- Wrong! It means having a dark blueish or purple colouration, especially when due to the coagulation of blood beneath the skin. SemperBlotto 14:51, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- The "pale, pallid" sense has been added. — SMUconlaw (talk) 16:46, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
