Shouldn't that be to use an alternative? It seems to be saying exactly backwards.

A light year travels a lot of distance.

How on earth could Old English have a word for 'light year', when the term did not and could not exist until the speed of light was accurately measured?

Because Old English, like Latin, is still in use and has developed a modern vocabulary. See, e.g., ang:w:lēohtgēar in the Old English Wikipedia. —Stephen 14:44, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
