Etimology
[edit]Deriving this word from the arabic word for scorpion seems really far-fetched to me. We should have the humility to admit when an etymology is unknown instead of coming up with such silly etymologies. Sérgio R R Santos (talk) 00:29, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- It's what Infopédia says. Find better resources and link them! Jberkel 01:37, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well, Infopédia can be notouriously unreliable, or at least greatly inconsistent, as I have stated in other places; although, to be honest, all sources can be unreliable, just an example is the word romã, of which the vast majority of sources claim it comes from the hypotetical *(mala) romana; I'm sure the Arabic term for it (rummān) being so similar to the Portuguese word is just a massive coincidence.
