I think 'the left side' is adjective and 'turn left' is adverb. In German it is like this. --anon

political sense for "left" as adjective in isolation

There's a stronger case for use of left as a standalone adjective in the political sense than there is for right, because there's no risk of confusion with another adjectival meaning. Even so, our sole example of use spells it with a capital letter .... can adjectives really be capitalized, or is this ellipsis for "of the Left" (a noun)? —Soap— 08:05, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
