If a word has multiple meanings, the translations might not be all the same word! The template organization has all meanings in one part of speech, then the translations under that. In this case, the Chinese is for sence 1. I don't want to hard-code a 1 in there, as they might renumber. —Długosz 06:09, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Yes, this is a known problem. If you look around Wiktionary, you may come across some entries that use a different scheme, where each meaning has the translations under it. This avoids the renumbering problem. On the other hand, sometimes several meanings do all translate the same way, and then you get duplicate entries. (And the pages get huge, with lists of translations all over the place.) It's a trade-off, and unfortunately there's no really good answer as long as we're using the Wikimedia format. It would be better to have some kind of database where a section could be entered once and then linked to everything it applies to, but that would require a significant development effort.
