Add topicLaparoscopy is a lens approximately 12 inches in lenghth and 1/4 to 1/2 inche in diameter. The lens is placed into the abdomen or pelvis through an introducer port. CO2 gas is used to tent-up the abdomen to give the surgeon more room to work. additional ports can be placed in other areas to introduce insturments such as graspers, cautery and scissors. Sugery can be completed; such as hysterectomy , appendectomy and gallbladder removal. The advantages of this type of procedure is shorter recovery ,less pain than an incision and less scarring. These operations are difficult to learn, an experienced board certified surgeon is most likely to begin and complete this type of surgery.
