In the USA:

There is such a thing as "pole dancing", "pole dancer" but no such thing as a "pole dance" in the context of a stripper dancing in a strip club using a fireman's pole in the center of the stage. If someone were to say "pole dance" it would be a reference to intercourse, and a pendant like me would correct them (even if it was humorous.)

Likewise, an "erotic dance" is a dance on a nightclub floor that is suggestive by adolecents fully clothed, but has nothing to do with an "erotic dancer" (stripper) nor "erotic dancing." (Strip club.)

Also: a "private dance" would be two octegenarians dancing in their own home on their 60th anniversary; a "private dancer" is a stripper, "private dancing" (especially in neon) indicates semi-private booths in a strip club.
