I'm not sure the French word "laid" should be included in this English wiktionary page.

usage

[edit]

I think there should be more information here on the usage of lay/lie/laid. It can be a complicated verb to conjugate correctly.

etymology

[edit]

I doubt the correctness of this etymology. It doesn't correspond with the etymology of lay, for which the verb is supposed to be a related form. I'm unfamiliar with the adjective form (relating to paper), but I'm guessing that also comes from the same verb `to lay`. E.g. see the meanings for printing and rope-making.
