Talk:lacmus

Wikipedia calls it a synonym for archil: unsure whether it means the plant, or the dye (different from litmus?). Equinox ◑ 15:18, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

• I took a run at or at least reviewed our entries for archil, orchil, cudbear, litmus, and cudweed. The single most helpful source, as is often the case for older terms, is Century 1911. I didn't change much on [[lacmus]], except for adding orchil (more modern spelling of archil), labeling it as archaic, and changing the gloss of moes in the etymology. It looks as if lacmus refers to litmus or orchil, which, in turn, refers to the dye, not any of the various plants that have been a source for it. DCDuring (talk) 17:52, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
