Talk:kradziej
Proto-Slavic etymology
[edit]@KamiruPL Hey! I'm having some doubts about the Proto-Slavic etymology of the word. It is theoretically possible that the word is descended from *kradějь. On the other hand though, the word does seem relatively recent, with WSJP dating it back only to the late nineteenth century (1876, to be precise). I believe what this might in actuality be is a blend of kraść and złodziej, given kraść is a bit more semantically related to the contemporary meaning of złodziej, which historically meant "evildoer," and the word itself I've encountered exclusively in rather humorous or otherwise very colloquial contexts. - You are correct. I assumed it to be inherited from the reconstructed Proto-Slavic lemma since it formally matched it. I will try to be more diligent next time. KamiruPL (talk) 10:34, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
