I would guess that most mainstream usage of jive is the misue for jibe. I don't hear the original usage much, and it's probably dated or at least limited, even in AAVE. I get the impression that, e.g., the Jive records label was consciously retro, but I could well be wrong. -dmh 18:19, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

More likely present tense form of jig - a short musical performance (it doesn't jive - a reference to the harmony of the performance)

Jive in my understanding (Minnesota small town) meant "to agree or accord or coincide with".
Response: I think you're thinking of "jibe".
