I always thought it was from the name Giacomo, with the consonants switched on purpose. Soap (talk) 04:12, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
'References'
[edit]Aren't those "references" truly external links? Those would not be very good references. Mr. Guye (talk) 15:53, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Evidence, New York Italian source
[edit]I can't find any evidence or references for the 'java/mocha' portmanteau, and I do have at least one source that I'm corroborating on it being from Italian (New York Italian, and therefore probably either Neapolitan or Sicilian, but that's why corroboration is taking a bit.) Where does this etymology of it being related to 'java/mocha/joe' come from? Elliott Dunstan (talk) 03:54, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- From Webster's dictionary, I suppose. EtymOnline doesnt even have an entry for jamoke, which surprises me. —Soap— 02:14, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
