Are you sure there's no other root it came from before Latin? I feel that if it starts with an "i," it must have been influenced by some other language as well. There's a handful of languages that start with an extra vowel for euphony, like French école, Spanish escuela, and other Romance languages. Dragonman9001 (talk) 12:04, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

According to the etymology dictionaries it is borrowed from Latin. The initial i was added simply to easy pronunciation of the word-initial consonant cluster in the Latin word. The dictionaries mention other similar examples for the i such as istálló, ispotály and istáp. Panda10 (talk) 20:50, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
