Not a word
[edit]- Title added. —Nils von Barth (nbarth) (talk) 13:36, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
The only source on this page has two links, one of which says "there is no definition of this word", and another of which has examples of usage that include "impactful is NOT a word people". I find this hilarious. 64.125.109.66 23:13, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Or you could just do your own research in google books. Plenty of instances of this word being used. Jamesjiao → T ◊ C 23:20, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Plus the 3 quotations given on the Entry page, all from academic journals. Any one of them is enough to satisfy Wiktionary:Criteria for Inclusion. -- Ghost of WikiPedant 04:56, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Guess what, I'm not condoning that this page be deleted. Did I ever say it should be? No.
- But, its not really a legit word - though people use it. Therefore, I think the objections to the word being used by the public deserve to be on the page. Mglovesfun's revert of my edit should have been a modification, as he deleted useful information. Please try to assume good faith to new editors, and try not to bite the newbs, ok? 64.125.109.66 22:18, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- The OED has it defined: adjective having a major impact or effect: an eye-catching and impactful design. ... Objections to the word are unfounded pedantry. --AnWulf ... Ferþu Hal! 11:49, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
There is no way that this is a bona fide word in the English language! To say that this is "Nonstandard" and that "numerous usages can be found", is an argument that might equally apply to egregiously misspelled words. Ought we to include these exempla also??

- The word has been noted as proscribed; it certainly exists, but is disliked by many.

- I think it's a great word. Nice hybrid from a Romance noun + Germanic suffix. Very English. Very useful.
