Derivation

[edit]

I was under the impression that this word was derived from the Dutch word ga, meaning go. And pretty much pronounced hya, like in English. This was from a list of imported farming/cowboy words that included trek (pull in Dutch, referring to having oxen pull a cart) and plow (pleogh in Dutch, referring to a team of animals that pull a plow), spring (Dutch for jump), till (Dutch meaning lift) and more.
