Just thought I'd mention two related phrases:
- "well hush my mouth wide open" - implying someone speechless and agog with surprise, and
- "shut my mouth wide open" - same thing, a few more google hits.
They both are probably rare and close to a century old, although I recall hearing the first version of it in New Zealand even though I am sure it is either AAVE or maybe originates from somebody trying to make up a phrase that is AAVE-like (possibly heard it from my father, who possibly got it from radio or a movie?). I have seen it since in a few odd places, always as an expression of surprise. Maitchy (talk) 00:36, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
