Nice Etymology
[edit]@Mlgc1998 Nice etymology, this looks plausible. Just wondering if you found it somewhere or you just thought of it. Thanks. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 10:22, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser I thought of it yesterday, why there was always these two, hintay and antay, then remembered that hing- prefix again, then connected that it made sense, then I saw antabay, listed as a synonym, then wondered again, if antay was another one of those where two syllables got merged into one, that other philippine languages, like certain visayan languages, tend to like to do. I was also thinking yesterday about the word, hapo and hapon, like maybe the other one was just hapo + -an, but who knows. Mlgc1998 (talk) 13:17, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Mlgc1998: It's possible, but words prefixed with hing- don't have alternative forms without the "h", since the "h" seems like an important part of the prefix. But for "hintay", it has an alternative form of "intay". --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:44, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
