Is harrowing really the present participle of harrow? Because the definition of harrow (in wiktionary) does not have any definition related to this definition of harrowing.

You seem to have misunderstood something. We have two definitions for "harrowing": as a verb, it's the present participle of the verb "harrow" (which has two senses: "To drag a harrow over; to break up with a harrow" and "To traumatize or disturb; to frighten or torment"), and as an adjective, it means "causing pain or distress". —RuakhTALK 18:35, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
