G. arag arg worthless, lazy, G. arg bad, IceL argr lazy, cowardly (Eng. arch = mischievous), hence as a term of abuse; its use was forbidden by the Lombard law : si quis alium argam per furorem clamaveritf Paul. Diac. 6, 24: memento quod me ... vulgari verbo arga vocaveris. In the district of Como , the an- cient abode of the Lombards, the word is preserved (arg an) ■= poltrone.
