After a Google search for "goaler prisoner", I finally found some reference to goaler in relation to prisons. Usually in the 17th and 18th centuries, original texts show "goaler" instead of "gaoler". I'm still not finding anything more recent except the occasional typos. Should we add the jailer def back as obsolete or leave it here on talk page?--Alia H 01:01, 25 Feb 2005 (UTC)

After double-checking on google, I didn't find any listing of goaler as an alt. spell. of jailer, (I fixed gaoler and jailer to link to each other.) but found multiple sports related uses. Not my area of expertise, can somebody make the definitions? I'd have to look it up in the dictionary to do it, and that's a no-no isn't it?--Alia H 06:48, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • "Goaler" is not an alternative spelling of "jailer" (or "gaoler"). Goaler has been cleaned up. — Paul G 15:54, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
