I believe that this is using the same definition currently at static: "Verbal abuse." I think it may be extended to harsh criticism as well. See also "got some static" on Google Books. PseudoSkull (talk) 16:44, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Delete, as readers can easily look up static. But certainly if there are more senses they can be added there. Facts707 (talk) 22:49, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

It's another one of these where the meaning can be deduced based on the parts but I still see value in recording the fact that "to give someone static" is idiomatic (sense 1) while "to bestow verbal abuse upon someone" is not. Also, keep per lemming. Fytcha (talk) 21:09, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
