Etymology

It seems like it ought to be fulciō (prop up, support) +‎ -crum. My speculation is that the original suffix was -c(u)lum (i.e. possibly before the anaptyxis in the suffix), where *fulc(u)lum became fulcrum through dissimilation. Jackwolfroven (talk) 21:01, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
